Festa do Figo Valinhos SP

History

Built by the hands of immigrants, the greatest wealth of Valinhos came through the Italian Lino Busatto that brought the first molting of Purple Fig in the year 1901.

Thus, in only 10 years it was already produced on commercial scale. In 1939, the newly arrived Father Bruno Nardini, seeking to raise funds to build the new Church, and at the same time improve the commercialization of the fig harvest, revolutionized what was then called Quermesse de São Sebastião.

The Feast of the Fig began at the Head of the Matrix. At the time, it was only intended to raise funds for the new Church, and discreetly, to help the small Italian farmers and immigrants who brought the fig to Valinhos.

Monsignor Bruno could never have imagined that he was writing one of the most important pages in the history of our city, and that in 2017 we would be celebrating the 68th Figo Festival.

The first Feast of Fig

The first edition of the Feast of the Figo was held in 1949, through the desire of Father Monsenor Bruno Nardini to raise funds for the construction of the new Headquarters of São Sebastião.

In a simple and communitarian way, the parish priest, dynamic man and a leader in the community, idealized a work and mobilized farmers and residents for this purpose, by performing quermesses.

Thus, at the same time that it began to raise funds for a work, it helped the farmers in the commercialization of its fruits.

Today a Feast of the Figo is a major dissemination of the agricultural potential of the municipality of Valinhos, known as "National Capital of the Purple Fig", at the same time it brings together the agricultural class and charities in order to bring joy and fun to the population of the region and Tourists From every country.
